A bilingual two-stanza poem in manuscript in Eaton’s fonds, this composition also appears in
hushabye
) and the brevity of Eaton’s piece recalls the six-line traditional Edo
lullaby. Inspired by such pieces, Eaton appears to have amalgamated and re-interpreted their
stylistic attributes in a manner that reflects the characteristic synthesis of Western and Eastern
cultures in her early oeuvre, as is evinced in her alternation between Japanese and
English.
